Bangladesh (2018)
The Acquisition and Requisition of Immovable Property Act (ARIPA) 2017 and its subsequent amendments in 1993 and 1994 are the applicable Government of Bangladesh legal and policy framework. ARIPA does not cover non-titleholders, such as encroachers, informal settlers or quarters, occupiers, and informal tenants and leaseholders without documents. ARIPA also does not provide for replacement cost of the property acquired and has no provision for resettlement assistance for restoration of livelihoods of displaced persons, except for legal compensation for land and structure. Further, in a majority of the cases the compensation paid does not constitute market or replacement cost of the property acquired.
